Hexagons using English Paper Piecing

This class is meant to introduce the beginner to the English Paper Piecing technique. We will be making a Grandmother’s Flower Garden flower with a twist. Instead of buying papers or cutting them from a printed template we will be using a die to cut everything.

Accuquilt has come out with a die that cuts both the papers and the fabric for this technique.

A die will be available in class for you to cut the pieces we will be using to make your flower.

This class is intended to teach you the techniques needed to complete the block
that I used in the Flower Garden quilt. The quilt construction will be taught later in the month. Diamond Quilt, click HERE for more information on that class.

  • Several pieces of tag board cut into quarters. Approx. 4 ¼” x 5.5”.
  • Fabric for 2 flowers you will need (3) 5 ½” x 6 ½” pieces of fabric that are the same and (1) 5 ½” x 6 ½” fabric that contrasts.
  • A piece of background fabric to sew your flower onto.
  • Thread: 40 weight thread like King Tut for basting and a 50–100 weight thread for sewing the pieces together. (I often use silk, but Deco Bob or Invisifil are both very good. Your patchwork thread will work but be sure to match the color.
  • Needles that work for each thread. Consider using a longer needle such asa a milliner or sewing needle.
  • A small pair of scissors and a needle threader of you need it
